We're pleased to announce that Phocuswright has selected Mercy Corps as its charity partner for Phocuswright Europe (16 – 18 May 2017 in Amsterdam).
"There are a number of leading travel companies supporting the refugee effort, but so much more needs to be done," said Phocuswright's vice president, events, Catherine Plummer. "We want to thank TripAdvisor for bringing this cause to our attention and asking us to shine a spotlight on the refugee crisis by using our platform to appeal to others in the travel industry for their support.
Mercy Corps supports refugees by providing them with the immediate and critical support they need to survive and build a brighter future. On 17 May, Mercy Corps' senior director, Henry Van Eeghen will discuss the global refugee crisis at Phocuswright Europe and provide information on how the travel industry and many other private companies can play a supporting role in humanitarian relief.
To put the crisis in perspective, the UN reports that at the end of 2015, 65.3 million people – or one out of every 113 people on Earth – are displaced from their homes and are seeking safe haven.
Travel is a global industry that is perfectly positioned to help with this global crisis. Through the massive employment opportunities it creates to the social good that tourism can have on society, the industry can play a unique role through more than just every day business. Philanthropic donations, in-kind services, job training and housing resources are just a few ways the travel industry can support the effort.
